Windows 10 – upgrade prompts

Microsoft starts Prompting users to ‘reserve’ their free Windows 10 upgrade

On Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 Computers the following is beginning to appear:

W10Prompt_1

This allows users to register for a free upgrade to Windows 10 when it is released by Microsoft later in the year.
Completing the prompts confirms that you allow Microsoft to automatically download the 3Gb installer for Windows 10 to your computer, and then they will prompt you to install the upgrade at a later stage.

* At present we do not recommend that people complete the prompts to get the Windows 10 upgrade to automatically download, as there are wide-spread reports that the initial version will have a substantial number of issues which Microsoft will need to resolve *

To remove the upgrade notifications from your computer:

Goto: Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features

On the left side, click on View installed updates (as shown below)

In the search box top right enter: KB3035583
After a moment, the following should appear:

Right click on Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3035583)

Left Click Uninstall, and click Yes

To prevent the notification from automatically reinstalling

Goto: Control Panel, System and Security, Windows Update

On the left side, click Check for Updates, wait for that to complete.

Click on the small line that says: important update is available (as shown below)
