Reporting Cyber Crime
We thought we’d share this… People receive phishing emails daily but what should you do if you’re a victim of cyber crime?
Here are three simple ways you can report phishing attempts:-
- Spam and Phishing/Smishing Text Messages — You can report spam texts directly to your mobile phone provider. All operators now use 7726 as the short code to report spam texts, which is free of charge. Click here and read an excellent article from Which magazine with more details.
- Phishing Emails — Were you aware that the National Cyber Security Centre has a Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS)?
- Cyber Breaches — If you are a business, charity or other organisation which is suffering a live cyber attack (in progress), you can call Action Fraud (the National Fraud & Cyber Crime Reporting Centre) on 0300 123 2040 immediately. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For readers outside the UK, check local resources as nearly every country has a reporting mechanism similar to the above.
