Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2019
It is widely known that in today’s workplace the constant threat to businesses and charities come in the form of a “Cyber Security Breach” with around a third (32%) of businesses and two in ten charities (22%) reporting to have had cyber security breaches or attacks in the last 12 months.
This is much higher specifically among medium and large businesses and high-income charities with over 50% experiencing some form of attack.
The most common types of breaches are via email. The statistics from the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport report the following methods being most prevalent:
- Phishing attacks – identified by 80% of these businesses and 81% of these charities.
- Viruses, spyware or malware, including ransomware attacks – 27% of these businesses and 18% of these charities.
